Batesville's hometown heroes inspire kids

Kids pose with local heroes in uniform“Hometown Heroes” was the theme for September's Family Reading Night at the Batesville preschool. A half dozen men and women wowed the children with their uniforms, then further impressed them by sharing about the important services they provide to our community and country. Grinning children posed for pictures with U.S. military members, a police officer, a security officer, and a firefighter. The children then gathered in a circle to hear a book read by a local firefighter. Health Resources of Arkansas was also on hand to share information about safety and health.

Family Reading Nights are a joint effort of the Independence County Junior Auxiliary, Parents as Teachers and the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project. Each month, families with children ages birth to five gather at the Batesville preschool for storytime, food, crafts, book giveaways and more. The next Family Reading Night, themed “Poetry and Popcorn,” is scheduled for Thursday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m.
